Maarten Walraven is a channel manager at Stingray with a specific focus on classical music and jazz. He also manages the Dutch musical theater company Liedhuis (www.liedhuis.nl) and co-edits the MUSIC x newsletter (www.musicx.substack.com).

Dr. Anthony Gritten

Head of Undergraduates Programmes at Royal Music Academy

Lecture on Saturday 23th January

Prior to coming to the Royal Academy of Music, Dr Anthony Gritten worked at the University of East Anglia, and the Royal Northern College of Music.

Anthony studied the organ with Harry Gabb, Anne Page and David Sanger, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. He has given over 300 recitals all over the UK, Paris, and Canada, including several premieres of works by Daniel Roth.

Anthony’s research spans a variety of issues in performance studies, the philosophy and aesthetics of music, and the music of Igor Stravinsky and John Cage.

I work as a freelancer journalist for Phenom’enon magazine, which is one of Hungary’s popular online independent pop culture magazines. I make interview with bands and artists from Hungary and abroad as well, writing and editing articles about music, contemporary art and series. I lead my weekly column called Phenom’enális elszámolás where I collect the best songs of the week.

Christos Marantos

Professional Pianist

Christos Marantos began his career as a pianist at an early age, winning the first prize at the national Youth Choir and Orchestra (‘XON’) competition in Athens. He started studying piano with Georgios Platon and then with Max Hallecker at the Conservatory “Ellinikon Odeon” in Athens, graduating with distinction in 1999. In 2006 Christos Marantos formed a piano duo with Harald Ossberger, which lasted until 2019. In 2011 the two pianists recorded a CD with works of Schumann for piano four-hands on the Gramola label. As a chamber musician Christos collaborated with the violinists Mario Hossen, Alexander Steinberger, Erich Schlagerl, Christian Altenburger and Peter Burwik’s contemporary music ensemble Exxj.

 

Christos regularly holds masterclasses at various institutions such as the Anton Bruckner University for Music, Dance and Theatre, the Carinthian State Conservatorium (KONSE), Musikum Salzburg, the Aswara Academy of Arts in Kuala Lumpur and the College of Music, Mahidol University in Thailand.

Beside his career as soloist and chamber musician he was the initiator and organizer of the Tribute to Nikos Kazatzakis in 2017 and the Film festival “ViennAthens 2019”. Since 2009 Christos Marantos has taught piano at the J.S. Bach Music School in Vienna.

Sarah Osborn

Head of Business Development at Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM)

Panel Discussion on Saturday 22th

Spending her early career in music publishing (with composers such as Gavin Bryars, Thomas Adès, George Benjamin, Richard Ayres and Gerald Barry at Faber Music and Schott Music), Sarah joined the Music Publishers Association as General Manager before being promoted to Chief Executive. As Chief Executive, she saw the organisation and industry through a period of significant change that saw the restructuring of MCPS, the establishment of PMLL (Printed Music Licensing ltd) and the introduction of the first licence to permit photocopying of sheet music within schools, and the implementation of the Hargreaves Review into UK copyright law.

After leaving the MPA in 2015, Sarah has been a freelance consultant, providing consultancy and project management services to the music publishing and wider creative industries community. Alongside running the Resonate project for the Association of British Orchestras and PRS Foundation, her clients have included Boosey & Hawkes, Audio Network and the composers Laurence Crane and Richard Beaudoin.

Sarah is a trustee of the National Music Council and co-founded Music Network UK, and a founding trustee of Let June Make A Difference, a grant giving charity supporting children in Yorkshire.

Sarah has started to work at ISM as Head of Services and Operations in 2018 and since 2020, She has been working for the organisation as Head of Business Development.
